This really is one of the best web development books I have ever read. The tutorials are very clear and easy to follow and all the examples work well. The author builds on a case study throughout the book to demonstrate the concepts he is explaining.
If you have a basic knowledge of WordPress, this book will help you to improve your blog and add lots of advanced features. It’s not just for business bloggers because much of the advice would apply to any type of WordPress blog.
The chapters on promoting your blog and building up your position in the blogosphere are particularly useful. It’s not just technical information – many web marketing techniques are also discussed, like search engine optimisation and RSS.
The author recommends some very useful plugins and third-party services. If you already have a standard WordPress blog, the book will show you where to go next to turn it into a professional looking blog that will attract more readers. There is even advice on how to write good posts and create engaging content.
You won’t find this information in the standard WordPress documentation. It gives you the kind of expertise a professional WordPress consultant would bring to your blog and shows you how easy it is to do it yourself. Thanks to the excellent tutorials, you won’t have any trouble applying these advanced techniques. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants to take their WordPress blog to the next level.

Far from being just for business bloggers, I think this book would be an excellent resource for anyone wanting to know a bit more about blogging. All the information and guidelines would be applicable to any new blog.
You could even use this book as a self study course, work through each chapter and follow the case study and by the end, you will not only know how to make a full site but, you will know why you put headings here, how you should respond to comments, what to do with SEO and how to apply it and much more.
The case study site is quite simple and will give you a good `heads up’ on how to add and remove items from an existing theme so you could adapt a regular theme to word specifically for your business.

If you’re working for your company and they don’t have a blog, just the information in Chapter 1 and 2 about mapping out a strategic plan and how to implement solutions would arm you with enough `know-how’ to talk your boss into getting your company into blogging. And wouldn’t it be nice if you knew just how to start?

Whilst the main part of the book is concerned with blogging using wordpress, as one reviewer has already pointed out, the points about blogging made in the book apply to any blogging software.
But more than that, several chapters cover issues that are relevant for all kinds of websites, not just blogs. The questions raised in the first two chapters should be asked by anyone thinking about establishing an internet presence.
It is also a useful introduction to HTML and CSS. I highly recommend this book, on all sorts of levels.
